THE CAT IS OUT OF THE BAG! WE NEED YOUR HELP TO SAVE OUR SPECIAL NEEDS CATS AND OUR RESCUE

WHAT HAS CHANGED:

We have been of service to more than one hundred fifty homeless cats and kittens since our first rescue in October, 2017. After getting all of the healthy kittens and cats we could into good loving homes, the rescue has become the permanent caretakers of those who proved unadoptable due to health problems, or who were sent back to us due to socialization issues.

A community of cats we rescued from an auto graveyard in Downtown Los Angeles - mostly from one family that it took us years to sterilize and remove from that dangerous property - suffer from an autoimmune disorder and various disabilities. We are now losing two properties that have served as temporary sanctuary for some of these feral or semi-feral cats, and, as their best hope is to be cared for by this rescue for the rest of their lives, we now need to establish a permanent sanctuary for these and other homeless, unadoptable cats in need. We have found a perfect location for the rescue near Joshua Tree, California, but we will need to raise the funds to build structures on it for the cats, and to set up completely enclosed areas to give the cats predator-proof outdoor access where they can live in peace for the rest of their lives.

WHO WE ARE:

Though we wear two different faces, our registered nonprofit rescue organization Lifelines For Felines, Inc., is, in fact, one and the same as the “rescue disorganization” Punks For Pussies.

Our rescue mission began in late 2017 when Linda, a homeless woman living in her car in a rough neighborhood with her cat and two dogs, and a bipolar artist named John Nikolai befriended each other. Together they began rescuing cats and kittens from an auto graveyard and getting them into good homes.

Several musicians associated with the old school punk community became supporters of the rescue. Alumni of The Cramps, TSOL, The Adolescents, 45 Grave, the Mau Maus, Christian Death and The Skulls adopted cats and kittens from the rescue, and several of those artists have played concerts to keep the rescue going.

By the end of 2021, Lifelines for Felines, Inc. had grown into a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity. Some of us at the helm of this rescue are unashamed to identify as having special needs ourselves. Both our president and vice president suffer from bipolar disorder and acknowledge that the challenges presented by mental illness are not inconsequential in either day-to-day living or the running of a homeless cat and kitten rescue. Thankfully, we have a lot of help and support. The rescue’s board are a group of professionals working in veterinary medicine, real estate, and financial management who help keep them focused and who keep the running of the rescue on track. It is no coincidence that some of the cats and kittens we saved have gone on to save the lives of some of the men and women who have adopted them – people who suffer from depression or who are battling addiction – who, through saving these cats and kittens from the brutality of life on the streets, find that it is perhaps the cats who have helped to save them.
